Am I More Than Just A Name?

Abiud was the father of Eliakim. Eliakim was the father of Azor. Azor was the father of Zadok…Mathan was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Joseph. (Matthew 1:13-16, NLT)

Generation after generation passes with seemingly nothing noteworthy other than a name. And yet it all leads up to Jesus.

Perhaps nothing remarkable will happen to me or in my lifetime. And yet God is going somewhere with it, perhaps generations from now.

Will I be faithful, where I’m at, when it seems like nothing of importance is happening?

Joseph was a righteous man (v.19). How much of that was helped by the generations who went before him? If they had been scoundrels, if they had not passed down their faith, where would Joseph have been? I can’t control how significant I am in my lifetime, but I can be faithful to God and pass that on (by teaching and example) to those who come after me.
