Seeing Jesus

I have seen your salvation… (Luke 2:30, NLT)

Only a few recognized Jesus when he came into the Temple as a baby, and Simeon was the first.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the activities of the day or just the seeming ordinariness of it. And so, like those in the Temple, we miss seeing Jesus in our lives.

But Simeon was “righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him…That day the Spirit led him to the Temple.” (Luke 2:25,27, NLT)

  • righteous
  • devout
  • eagerly waiting
  • filled with the Spirit
  • led by the Spirit

Not a bad list of characteristics to cultivate if I want to see and recognize Jesus in our world and in my life today.

Jesus, this Christmas, and throughout the new year, help me to recognize you as you work in my life and in the lives of those around me. Like Simeon, satisfy the longing in my heart that only comes from being with you.
