God has made me fruitful in this land of my grief. (Genesis 41:52, NLT)
When I read the life of Joseph, his “meteoric” rise (in 3 chapters he went from slave to second in command of a world power), I see an overcomer, one who rises above his circumstances. I also think, “I’m not like that. I’m not that positive and optimistic.”
But Joseph names his son Ephraim because God made him fruitful in the land of his grief. For six years, in the midst of trials, hardships, and unfair treatment, Joseph grieved.
Nevertheless, grief didn’t stop him from being fruitful. Hardships didn’t hinder him from the promise God gave. Joseph couldn’t control his circumstances, but, he could continue to trust God and follow Him.
And, God made him fruitful in the land of his grief.
Loss, hardships, and seemingly unbearable challenges will come in this life here on earth, so grieve…and trust…and follow. For even in the land of our grief, God will make us fruitful.
