But the more the Egyptians oppressed them, the more the Israelites multiplied and spread… (Exodus 1:12, NLT)
I sometimes think, “If only I had ten million dollars, then I could really make a difference.”
“If only others would recognize my talent, then I could truly influence others for good.”
“If only I didn’t have to work, then I could be a great parent and spouse.”
But life doesn’t cooperate. Worse, not only do I not get what I want or feel I deserve, I get treated poorly and unfairly.
Then I think of the Israelites in Egypt.
The Israelites multiplied and spread not in spite of their oppression but because of it.
I don’t need perfect circumstances to thrive, to produce fruit, to live a life that matters. I can multiply and spread now, right where I’m at. So can you.
Father, set me free from binding myself to my circumstances. Strengthen me to multiply and spread for the sake of your Kingdom, right where I’m at.
