Aaron and Miriam criticized Moses. Yet when Miriam is struck by leprosy, he immediately intercedes on her behalf.
Me, I can think of a few sarcastic comments to make to her. “Didn’t you just say God has spoken through you too? Why don’t you have Him speak to you now!”
I defend, I justify, I excuse. Mostly, I get offended. But not Moses. What mindset and spirit spurs him to pray for Miriam instead of gloating?
Moses focuses not on himself. Not on his reputation. Not on his authority. Not on his leadership. But rather, on the well-being of those he led. Even when they criticized him.
Father, so often I respond to criticism poorly. I withdraw. I strike back. And so I see, I’m leading for myself. Help me always to see and want the best for those I lead.
